Past perfect continuous tense

 Past లో మొదలై, కొంతసేపు past లో కొనసాగిన action ను past perfect continuous tense తెలియచేస్తుంది. అంటే action మొదలవ్వటం, అంతమవ్వటం అన్నీ past లోనే జరిగి ఉంటాయి. Past లోనే ఏదో ఒక సమయంలో మొదలై, కొంత సమయం జరిగిన తర్వాత past లో ఏదో ఒక సమయంలో ముగిసిపోయిన work and action ను తెలియచేయటానికి past perfect continuous tense ను వాడతారు.

Past perfect continuous tense కు కూడా time reference ఉంటుంది. Since, for, when, before వంటివి దీనిలో సమయాన్ని సూచించటానికి వాడతారు. 

Past perfect continuous tense లో వాక్యం యొక్క structure క్రింది విధంగా ఉంటుంది. 

Subject + had + been + present tense verb + ing + time reference

·        He had been working in the company for two years when he got the promotion. - ప్రమోషన్ పొందేనాటికి అతడు కంపెనీలో రెండు సంవత్సరాల పాటు పని చేస్తూ ఉండి ఉన్నాడు. 

Past perfect continuous tense ను ఇంకా ఈ క్రింది వాటికి వాడతారు.

1. Cause and effect ను తెలియచేసే ఒక past action ను గురించి చెప్పటానికి past perfect continuous tense ను వాడటం జరుగుతుంది. దీనిలో continuous verb ను వాడటం జరుగుతుంది, అంతేకాకుండా ఏది ముందు జరిగింది, ఏది తర్వాత జరిగింది అనే విషయాన్ని కూడా ఇది తెలియచేస్తుంది. 

·        Raghu was feeling sick because he had been eating too much food throughout the day. - రోజంతా తింటూ ఉండటం వలన రఘు జబ్బు పడ్డాడు. 

పైన ఉదాహరణను చూస్తే, రఘు రోజంతా తింటూనే ఉన్నాడని, దాని ఫలితంగా జబ్బు పడటం జరిగిందనే విషయం అర్థమవుతుంది. 

2. Present perfect continuous tense and past continuous లో చెప్పిన direct speech లోని వాక్యాన్ని reported speech లో చెప్పటానికి కూడా past perfect continuous tense ను వాడతారు. 

·        She said, “I have been cooking all the day”. – Direct speech

·        She said that she had been cooking all the day. – Indirect (Reported) speech

·        He said, “I was working in the office that night.”

·        He said that he had been working in the office that night.

Negative sentences లో past perfect continuous tense ను వాడాలంటే ‘not’ ను had కు తర్వాత చేరిస్తే సరిపోతుంది.

·        I had not been eating vegetables for two years.  - రెండేళ్ళ నుండీ నేను కూరగాయలు తినటం లేదు. 

Past perfect continuous tense ను interrogative sentences లో వాడాలంటే మొదట had ను వాడి, తర్వాత subject ను వాడాలి. దాని తర్వాత been, present tense verb + ing ను, object ను, time reference  వాడాలి.

క్రింది వాక్యం చూడండి.

·        Had Ram been using the same car since 2010? - Interrogative sentence

పైన ఉదాహరణలో 2010 నుండీ రామ్ అదే కారును ఉపయోగిస్తున్నాడా? అని అడగటం జరిగింది. దీనికి answer yes అయితే వాక్యం positive గా క్రింది విధంగా ఉంటుంది. 

·        Ram had been using the same car since 2010. – Positive sentence

ఒకవేళ no అయితే వాక్యం negative గా క్రింది విధంగా ఉంటుంది

·        Ram had not been using the same car since 2010. – Negative sentence
